Very interesting thread from @ajroach42 about a low tech, more asynchronous web: https://retro.social/users/ajroach42/statuses/99831930754487253
@ink_slinger @ajroach42 95% of that thread is way over my head but super interesting conversation. Lots of smart people chiming into such a niche topic, that's awesome.
@xvu @ajroach42 Oh, yeah, a lot of the technical stuff is beyond me, but the general ideas and concepts -- to the extent I can grasp them -- are very interesting and promising not only for developing countries but also for a maintaining an internet in a less energy rich future (which may or may not be what we see when the fossil fuel age finally ends).
@ink_slinger @ajroach42 So, is something like Scuttlebutt super relevant to this sort of thinking? I've been using it a lot while traveling through central america with sporadic internet.
I can browse while offline and just download the newest updates when I do eventually find wifi.
I just read through your whole thread and it all makes a lot more sense to me now. really cool stuff. interested in learning more.
@ajroach42 @ink_slinger Right, okay. I've never heard of DAT but giving it a look now, looks cool.
Software is much more my thing, for sure going to give this some more thought!
PS. Scuttlebutt has a really cool community of people doing similar projects like this. The #solarpunk and #offgrid communities on there are awesome, lots of really interesting folks building projects like what the original thread was about to an extent
@xvu @ink_slinger Oh for sure.
I've been meaning to install and explore SSB for a while.
I'll check out the communityand see what i can learn.
