Anyways it isn't my place to have an opinion here... the fact old white men doctors have historically had far too much influence on contraceptive technology has been a problem really.

The whole reason the pill has the "placebo week" or whatever it's called is because the devout Catholic doctor who was working on it figured this would allow it to be close enough to the ol' rhythm method that it wouldn't technically be a contraceptive and wouldn't technically be against his Catholic faith. It was possible, even back then, to make a pill that completely eliminates menstruation (like the depo shot does now).
