Looks like we're getting lots of new people again, so I'll re-introduce myself. #introduction #introductions

#decentralization
#mutualism

#poetry
#FLOSS
#food
#art
#netneutrality
#ecology
#socialecology
#solarpunk
@plu Not sure about the Silicon Valley part (although I'm continually surprised by the number of cryptocurrency folks interested in it), but yeah...it's mostly a creative movement that envisions a future in which we've solved the ecological crisis or are close to doing so. It often involves anarchist or communalist themes (Bookchin is big with a lot of #solarpunk folks).
Does that make sense? As a genre, it's still developing so it's a bit hard to fully explain.
@plu It's often contrasted against #cyberpunk. Instead of accepting the dystopia and telling stories about the few who fight against it, #solarpunk aims to be more optimistic and even utopian.
@ink_slinger @plu I would argue that it is more scientific/realist than utopian, specially since it has roots on solid praxis rather than things magically working out. (Though I also might be misunderstanding Engel's Socialism: Utopian and Scientific)
@plu @ink_slinger Solarpunk has strong roots on Bookchin's Social Ecology and Communialism.
It takes most of Green Anarchism criticism on the capitalist mode of production and proposes a lot of systems that have ecological awareness at its core.
Can't really say to what degree there are solarpunks in SV but solarpunk movement is not based on SV area or culture.
@ink_slinger What's solarpunk? A quick Google sheets that it seems to be mix of Silicon Valley, eco-friendly, and maybe libertarianism/anarchism?
