As well as people who are both good at writing and performing, like Stacey Ann Chin, Saul Williams, Alix Olsen, and many others.

Also, having done a lot of performance work at both spoken word-focused and "page poet" venues, I think it can be a way to expose both respective audiences to new experiences that they wouldn't have had otherwise.

I'm trying not to just say "This is an old, tired non-debate. Next!" here, but it's sort of close to that.

@shoutcacophony @masu This is an excellent point. As someone who has generally written his poetry with an ear to it being read aloud (though I wouldn't call myself a performance poet, per se), I should have thought about that. What works on the page doesn't always work aloud, and vice versa. Neither form is lesser, IMO, just different.

@ink_slinger @masu Exactly. People's work should be evaluated on its own, and relative to what the context/medium they're utilizing is, not some sort of ideal form standard

@shoutcacophony @masu On that note, people need to remember that Rupi Kaur started out as an instagram poet, which kind of demands simplicity (but, imo, doesn't translate well to a printed book).
