Sitting at the doctor's office. Can't help but wonder how many hours of my life I've wasted trying to get the medication I need instead of dealing with doctors that dance around the real problem, and prescribe half-measures that cause side effects the proper medication wouldn't.

@EleventhOcean Does your doctor give you any kind of reason as to why you're not getting the meds that should help most?

@Supernova No, but I presume because they're frequently recreationally abused. He just dodges the question every time I ask, and I don't want to seem like I'm drug-seeking, so I go along with it, hoping he'll eventually get to them.

I also have a theory that there's a correlation between my presenting as male and my difficulty in getting proper treatment for mental health issues.

@EleventhOcean Ah, ok.

I mean, I suppose you're doing it right by not pressing it too much, but having to suffer while doing so doesn't really feel like any kind of viable alternative, either. :worried:

I also don't have a lot of faith in GP's treating mental health issues based on my (very brief) experience.
