Hey Moostodonians - big announcement time!
It's official- my family and I will be moving from the US to Canada later this year!
More specifically, we will be relocating to the #Waterloo/#Kitchener area. (What's up, #ykf!) My wife recently accepted a position in the area, and I will be starting my search shortly.
If anyone knows of sweet jobs there in the #robotics, #artificialintelligence/#AI, or #industrialautomation biz, please drop me a note! All other local contacts also welcome! Thanks!
@ink_slinger Excellent - thank you!
@Modern_Industrial hey congrats! That's really awesome. I know Waterloo is a bit of a hotspot for cool tech here in Canada.
We sponsored a hackathon there at a local university last year, and lots of bright folks showed up to participate.
Those fields are in super high demand these days, I would suggest making friends with your local NRC (national research council) rep. They'll be in contact with the companies doing cool RnD, and know who is looking for what.
@thurloat Great advice - Thank you!
@Modern_Industrial Nice! Best of luck to you!
@Taco Thank you!
@Modern_Industrial Congratulations, and best of luck to you and your family in getting settled and started! ๐
@Supernova Thank you! We are very excited to become New Canadians!
@Modern_Industrial Welcome to Canada! So, what kinds of jobs would you be interested in? To be perfectly clear, I'm probably not in the position to help you directly - I'm just curious as it sounds very interesting. Respond if and when you have the time...
@Modern_Industrial Its Waterloo..you'll do great for that I'm sure! Goog's has a local office there even.
@Toxic_Flange Fingers crossed!
@Modern_Industrial Probably the only good place to go for those fields in Canada with the University and all! Congrats!
BTW, where in the US are you now? Humidity in SW Ont is intolerable to me!
@Rolston Thank you!
Presently in the Southeast, where muggy is an ever-present reality. Summers here are also brutally hot, so that will not be missed.
Southerners, upon hearing our news, keep asking, "But isn't it so cold? It gets below freezing there!" ๐
@Modern_Industrial Yeah. Get used to cold(ish) winters. You're near a large lake, so it won't be -40. Also get used to temperatures in C (-40C == -40F). Your summers'll likely be muggy, but possibly not southwestern US muggy. Also, get used to electricity being called "hydro" It's an Ontario thing. :)
@Rolston I lived in Iowa for a couple of years, so only Nunavut winters intimidate me now. โ๏ธ
Metric will be a big adjustment. Prices will be a small adjustment. I still don't understand the "hydro" thing. Is all electricity hydro? Or only electrons moved by hydroelectric generators?
@Modern_Industrial Congrats on the big move! Ontario makes good people, right @thurloat :)
@JessSloan @thurloat I hope so! Thank you, Jess!
@Modern_Industrial I know a guy here in #yeg who is working in robotics/AI. I'll try to see if he knows anyone (probably at one of the universities, since he's an academic/researcher).
