Hello! New to Mastodon. My interests include reading, knitting, PC gaming, the outdoors, food, and cats. #introdocution #intro #newtomastodon
@Dana Hey Dana. I'm a transplanted Blue Noser. I bet spring is well underway in MO. Blossoms on the trees?
@cognish Hello! My early life was split between Hali and Tantallon. We do have blossoms! But... snow for Easter. Figures!
@Dana Tantallon; long time since I've seen or heard that name. Nice.
Here in central Alberta we've had several small snowfalls in the past week. Sunny & cold. 5 or more weeks from blossoms.
@Dana Welcome! I just made the opposite move: US -> Canada. Are you in the big city or out in the country? How are you liking it?
@Modern_Industrial - I am in the suburbs, close to both big city (St. Louis) and rural areas. It's "okay". I'm not in total love with the area, but after being here almost 20 years, I can deal. :D
How about you? What's the strangest Canadian thing you've found?
@Dana Bagged milk for sure, although the second is the unexpected calmness that comes from having universal healthcare. My family is healthy and financially secure, but we were surprised by how much calmer we were knowing that a sudden medical thing wouldn't bankrupt us.
St. Louis has it's pros and cons, for sure. The Hill district is a big pro, though - best Italian food I've ever had, including Italy. What's your favorite part about the area?
@Modern_Industrial Ha, yes, bagged milk... strange, but logical. Healthcare has pros and cons there. Potential long wait times, and very large operations may still cost a lot of money. I had open heard surgery here (Missouri) with the cost to my insurance being over $80k. I paid my $1,300 deductible, and that's it. My mother thought it would bankrupt us!
The Hill is great, I love the food scene here. Many different nationalities. Soulard Market is probably one of my fav places.
Nice going, me... I can't spell #introduction correctly. Must need more coffee.
