How do depictions of #AI in popular #scifi affect how we think about real AI and its future? @firstname.lastname@example.org, @email@example.com, @firstname.lastname@example.org and @AINowInstitute@twitter.com's Rashida Richardson discussed at #SXSW 2019! Listen here! http://ow.ly/lmh750uDogk
You won‘t believe what happened on the job, the other day...
No, it didn‘t, because it‘s #scifi I‘m #writing. Whatever events I’m talking about are confined to the future. Some of it might feel familiar, as in same old great or same old bad. A couple of aspects might deserve the label futuristic.
Don‘t get your hopes up, it‘s just my June #shortstory
Yesterday I did a quick commission for @yncke of their enormous ship "Solar Wind", a centuries old station with living quarters, shuttle hangars and research labs.

@aldersprig Glad you ask!
Busy with episode 8 (out of 9, for this first batch) of my series.
Three of my preferred characters take centre stage in a cool setting, there’s loads of black and gay pride and joy, I get to pretend #writing hard #scifi because some more of the tech is revealed..., beat that!
Perfect life, if it wasn’t for the rounds of day job in between.

If you are a fan of intelligent SciFi and don't know Blake's 7 you really should check it out. Paul played the part of my favourite character Avon.
B7 was produced from 1978-81, a period when the BBC didn't spend a lot of money on special effects. Look beyond some wobbly sets and there is some excellent acting, great stories and thought provoking commentary.
All the episodes might be available on a well known video hosting site.
The whole magazine is available as free PDF, and at a glance, this looks /really/ interesting.
It'd be cool if other people participated at the same time!
"Behold, my creation!"
"You made a mermaid?!"
"Sort of; I genetically modified a carp, a LOT."
"That's still impressive. Top half looks entirely mammalian. Positively buoyant! It.. she? Does she... do anything? Besides blink asymmetrically?"
"Still just a fish. Spent most of my time working out the hair issue. Brains took a backseat."
"Well, she.. it? It's very attractive, so I'm sure nobody'll care that it eats aquarium gravel."
