Does anyone know if a Masto / Pleroma server can import one of the "all my posts" backups that Mastalab creates?

So here's the thing. Nobody except your instance admin can MAKE you CW for politics/racism/etc.

But if you're one of those people who think "my topic is so important that it would be wrong to CW it, because The People Need To Know", then "The People" will start muting you, and pretty soon you'll just be yelling to yourself. I know I've muted a fair few people for politics without CW, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

So if you want "The People" to read what you have to say, CW. #meta

It seems like there isn’t as much of a culture on here (vs other social networks I used to be on) to post pictures of homemade food. I like seeing what other people have cooked; it always looks delicious and gives me ideas. Please show me your foods!

I dislike popularity/count based schemes in that they advantage early adopters or people with following. This pushes a dialogue platform into being a publishing one instead, and negatively affect quality of dialogue, and increases the barrier of entry.

Popularity is a very incomplete metric for quality of content.

Everyone's unhappy with the #mastodev process - both @Gargron saying that people are being non constructive and people are saying that they had no idea about the feature before it landed in a release.
Can we make something like an RFC process? Maybe we don't need full fledged one but it would give some structure to the discussion. +s, -s, alternatives, impact. Make a draft, iterate. Give it some fixed time (say a week) before making full implementation.

if you want to create a space that is free from harassment, then listen when people tell you something is a tool that can and will be used to harass folks.

if you want to run a community, listen to your users that are most vulnerable about important issues that are impacting them.

There's Github drama, so I'm daydreaming.

An instance with a silly portmanteau name like... mastocracy.social.

There are member slots to fill. 3 trans people, 3 women, 3 people of colour, 3 people over 50, 3 people who don't code at all... etc. etc.

Each time there is a front-end feature to add (like trending tags), it's added to the instance. The members use it for a few days and then vote on whether it's a good idea. The result is then anonymously posted on the Github pull request.

Any form of rating or trends works against federation.
One more reason to be on m.s. would be to get better trends.

Clearly, there is a need for distributed audio integration with Mastodon, so audio clips can be attached to toots, instead of the usual linking to Youtube, or uploading a video file.

I think contrary to popular belief we don't have any shortage of instances. We have shortage of people joining small instances. Maybe it's because there's no relay mechanism, maybe because people are afraid of losing things, maybe it's because people don't understand how it works.
