I wrote a dumb little thing about Arcade Fire because I was hella bored. I've never actually listened to their stuff, but annoyingly this piece has one of the best read ratios of anything I've ever written. I contend that culture is so bland that there is no need to actually experience it in order to write about it. Here's the proof:

Hey tuskies,

It's been kind of a weird couple of weeks here.

I got my job for next year confirmed, which is amazing. My first assignment is running a symposium in September for which we have some just incredible names in the hat.

And then last night I had some bad news. An old friend of mine (a former flatmate), died in an avalanche in the French Alps yesterday. Emilie was good people, and the world is a little less wry and sardonic today.

Reckon the intersection of cyberpunk fans and Warren Ellis fans is over-represented among my follow-friends...

I'll be at the Calgary Comics and Entertainment Expo this Sunday at 4pm talking about some of the connections between the two.

Third year running I've been on a panel here. I've found it a really awesome way to connect people who already love good stories with some different ways of thinking about them. Always get some great questions afterward too.

So, hey! I have not really been active on here yet cos I have been busy with end-of-term stuff, but planning to fix that in the next couple of weeks.

Interested to see how this will turn out, not totally sure I understand how it works yet.
