Just fixed my inlaws computer by messing around in the registry while referring to a guide online.

Totally outside my comfort zone kind of stuff.

It worked, though!

The "imposter" meter is well and truly off the scale, though! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿค“

@Supernova i find most often that windows problems can be solved by just inquisitively clicking around and being decent at google searches.

if "normal" users had the confidence to go poking around and ask questions, more problems would get solved on their own

@thurloat @Supernova This is undoubtedly true; on the other hand, there are so many weird "gotchas" with Windows (and other software) problems, and the interfaces often so needlessly opaque to even experienced users, that it's almost inevitable that a user attempting to do so will eventually run into something frustrating and confusing enough to largely turn them off of trying to fix their own problems forever, and though I think that's self-defeating I can't really blame 'em.

@Supernova @thurloat (I will repeat this back to myself the next time someone at work comes to me with a problem they could have trivially and obviously solved if they had actually read the error message on screen . . .)
