As if writing in the past tense about an event that hadn't yet happened (in order to meet a submission deadline) wasn't weird enough, the publication in question went ahead and printed the article now the article in which I refer to Halloween in the past tense is available online.

@ink_slinger a lady at work referred to trick or treating in the past tense in a conversation about preparing for Halloween this year and when I was all "you had trick or treaters already?" was all condescending about how Halloween is on WEDNESDAY.

So I think maybe a general detachment from linear time is just part of Samhain.
